What about George W Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Craig Benson? -- DJ Entropy

What about Bush?! This is the guy who has not only failed veto even a single bill, allowing billions of dollars to be spent on a whim, but who also failed to veto the McCain-Feingold Political Speech Suppression Act. I'm not sure if it was he himself who said this or if it is merely attributed to him, but it is said that he signed the bill with the expectation that the Supreme Court would find it unconstitutional and strike it down. Regardless of the veracity of that report, the man DID sign it into law, and I will never forgive him for that.

Next, the stupid Republicans, on a partisan vote, have pushed the 527 gags through the House (only a handful of libertarian thinkers, like Jeff Flake, opposed the bill). I get it that they're mad at Soros for dumping millions of dollars on the Democrats, but taking away anyone's right to speak to the issues -- regardless of what side they're on -- is an infringement on everyone's right to free speech. What started out as a guarantee that anyone might criticize the government without fear of being hanged, now only seems to protect pornography. Somehow, I don't think that was what the Founders had in mind.

We managed to abolish alcohol consumption in America, only to have it reversed. We have RLCers pushing to have bans on drugs reversed, and they may some day succeed. But who is working to reverse McCain-Feingold? And speaking of McCain, just why is it that the Leftmedia is calling him the next Republican presidential candidate? For his primary role in the suppression of political speech in America, I will work strenuously to oppose his candidacy, despite the fact that many otherwise count him as a libertarian.

Don't make me laugh! What has Bush done or advocated that is libertarian,
with the exception of some tax measures also favored by conservatives?

              > Ronald Reagan

Reagan's true ideology, which you can read in his writings (especially his
early writings) were very libertarian. Unfortunately, circumstances --
including facing legislators who were out-and-out socialists -- made him
              unable to govern that way.

              > Craig Benson?

The governor of New Hampshire? For once, you've hit the target squarely.
Benson is not only one of the libertarian Republican elected officials out
there, he has welcomed and encouraged the Free State Project.

It would be nice if he ran for president...
