I counted the word Indian at least 9 times in this publication.

OK - I just sent this over to them, so I'll let you know if they have
      something to say.

      Hi Nancy-Jo,

There are a few people on the MA-Mendon list who research Comstock.

Do you want me to repost your message there, or ask for you?

I also found this page which seems like it could be the correct John, but no
      mention of the Newfields

      http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~katy/comstk/b282.html

Scroll down and click on John. I didn't read all the way through but it
seems like there are a lot of sources

and explanations, so hopefully the data is reliable.

      Lisa

      Peleg Newfield, town of Smithfield

      Hello everyone,

I am looking for some help.

I have found a potential ancestor/relative on the 1777 Military Census of
RI, the man's name is Elisha Newfield and he is enumerated as a male, Indian
ages 50-60 with an "A", I'm assuming the "A" means "Able to Bear Arms" but
      am unsure.

Above his name, is the name of a man named John Comstock, then indented
below that name is the name of Elisha Newfield, I (Indian) age 50-60 and
Peleg Newfield, I (Indian) age 50-60. Can anyone on the list shed some
light on who the John Comstock would be? I find that using ancestry.com,
Elisha Newfield was in the 1770, 1790, 1800 and 1840 US Census in Rhode
Island. Any insight and help to this would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you.

      Nancy-Jo Nunez
