Group Description

Raildate is a weekly listing of topical railway-related internet links, forthcoming events and TV & radio programmes. It is not a discussion group, so there is no restriction on anyone joining. Contributions are always welcome, but will only be included at the editor's discretion. The editor's contact details are given in each issue.

There will only ever be one Raildate in a week, so you are recommended to choose "Individual emails" when you join (there is no point opting for "Daily Digest").

I am always happy to receive information about forthcoming events to publish in Raildate, no matter how far ahead (I already have dates on file for a year hence!) Ideally, send details in the format that I use here. (Please don't ask me to go searching around a website to glean the information... I'm sorry, but life's too short...!)

A brief history of Raildate has been added to the group's Files section.

The main picture was taken at Penmere Platform on the ex-GWR Falmouth branch on 26th July 2013. The "heritage" DMU is seen at Wirksworth on 7th March 2008. (Both photos: Howard Sprenger)

PLEASE NOTE: Since August 2013, some subscribers have found that URLs in Raildate are not hyperlinked, which rather defeats the object! This is as a result of changes introduced by Yahoo, but although it now appears that links are working again in the web view, they do not always work in emails.

If you are affected, there are some things you can try:
- Change your Yahoo settings to receive Raildate as plain text ("Traditional") rather than HTML and let your email client resolve the links (I send it to Yahoo as plain text anyway).
- Forward Raildate to yourself in plain text format.
- Copy and paste the contents of the email into a Word document and let it resolve the links.
- "Print" the contents of your Raildate email into a PDF file.

These are all workarounds rather than fixes, so if anyone has a better suggestion, please let me know!
