Whenever you are overtaken by a calamity, first think of Radhasoami Dayal, that is to say, compose your mind and practice Sumiran (repetition of the Holy Name) and Dhyan (contemplation of the Holy Form) for a few minutes. After this, humbly pray internally at the Holy Feet for the grant of grace and power of endurance, and thereafter proceed to do whatever may suggest itself to you to be the best to meet the situation. It is improper to start crying like a child on such occasions, or to underrate difficulties in a fit of conceit. A devotee is expected to maintain the equilibrium of his mind in all circumstances.

It is easy for a man to forsake his wealth, wife and children, but it is not easy for him to give up egotism. This egotism has made him blind, and he is unable to perceive any one but himself. The truth of the matter is that neither the Supreme Being nor the Sant Satguru is far from man. But, like the blind man who is unable to behold the sun shining in his face, a man blindfolded by his egotism is unable to perceive either the Supreme Being or the Satguru.
