      If you haven't tried autofiltering on column headings, make sure you do. The drop down arrows in the column headings are part of the Excel spreadsheet "autofilter" function. They are very powerful for looking at haplotype variations at the STR level. Here is some help on autofiltering.

      Under the column heading drop down, I frequently use the non-blanks, and the custom filtering for "less than or equal to", "greater than or equal to", "equal to", "begins with" and "contains" functions all of the time. This is especially helpful C ("Hg") and BZ ("Downstream SNP's"). For instance, you can find all of the "L238-" folks in a flash using "contains" "L238-".

      Sometimes it is hard to remember which filters you have turned on. You can go to "Data", then "Filter", then "Show All" to clear all of them. Hitting the red "RESET" button does the same.

      At the top of the spreadsheet in rows 5 and 6, the "Selected VARIANCE" and "Selected MODE" totaling lines will update to reflect the current selected (only) haplotypes. Cell BY5 has the "Sum of the VARIANCE" for all of the selected haplotypes, but you have to pick only one length of haplotypes to see this.
