Course setters notes April 4th
- CS notes for 04/04/04 QOC meet.
THE TERRAIN. Rather flat with many reentrants (mostly not very deep).
Almost entirely forested.
Runnability: average or better than average for the area; varies from
to spots of bad.
Moderate trail system.
THE MAP. 1:15000 (not indicated in the map)
contour interval 5m (not indicated in the map).
Mapped and printed in 1995.
The portion of the map to be used in this meet
is mapped very accurate and was used for an A-meet several years ago.
Some more details about the map:
The trail system seems not to have significantly changed.
Trails marked as indistinct are really indistinct.
A couple of new indistinct trails may be noticed.
The equestrian trail to the west from Park Entrance Road
is, in some places, hardly visible.
This does not affect White and Yellow courses.
Black "x" usually indicates a heap of metallic garbage.
Most of the objects mapped as pits and knolls are VERY small.
There is not much of yellow color in the map.
Small bits of "rough open" are not so easy to find.
Green color still shows runnability very well.
In many places it can be used as features too, but remember the age
Some streams look to have slightly changed their current.
Wet places look more green than mapped, but this is spring!
I went tagging two times, and both times I returned with dry feet.
Yet, they predict strong rains Wednesday to Saturday...

are going to West Connecticut A-meet this weekend)

even some visible from one another.
