Schools have started for most kids in the area. We’ve just got the Labor Day weekend left to play and mark the unofficial end of Summer. There are 2 Summer Short Series events this weekend:
The first training session is to be in Great Falls National Park, VA. Tom Strat is setting up a Middle Distance/Control Picking event. If you plan to participate, an RSVP to strat@... is requested. Starts will be 4:30-5:00pm on Saturday, September 1st. To gather for this training event, turn right after the entrance station and park in the lot at the end of that road. The park charges a fee for entry. There will be the usual dinner opportunity following the event. It will probably be at an Irish pub in the Great Falls, VA area.
For an encore, head to Bethesda, MD on the Labor Day holiday, Monday, September 3rd, and try your skill at an urban Street-O. Starts will be from 10:00 to 10:45am. A detailed 1:4,000, 10 foot contour, updated, expanded, and almost ISSOM map will be used. Course length(s) will be approximately between 4K and 5K. To attend, RSVP to me at nadim@.... This is a training event on open streets, squares, sidewalks, parks and parking lots; participation will be limited. For clothing, attending in just shorts and a t-shirt is recommended—no gaiters are needed, and no spike shoes are allowed. Meet in the Bethesda Elementary School Parking Lot near the intersection of Arlington Rd. and Moorland Ln (3 blocks from the Bethesda Metro Station). A somewhat traditional cookout at the Ahmed/Dickison residence will follow at about noon or soon after so please indicate if you’re planning on attending that too. Showers will be available.
