Group Description

The Quality Comics Group was the creation of printer Everett M.Arnold who entered the rapidly growing U.S.Comic Book industry in 1939 when he bought Feature Funnies which he renamed FEATURE COMICS, soon to become the home of the companies first if smallest Superstar..DOLL MAN!

within the next few years Arnold lived up to his 'Busy' nickname and added several more titles to the roster including SMASH COMICS,CRACK COMICS,HIT COMICS,NATIONAL COMICS,POLICE COMICS and MILITARY COMICS, the last two titles saw the debut of Quality Biggest Stars;
PLASTIC MAN and BLACKHAWK,
both of whom would outlive the company itself.

These books where some of the finest comics of the Golden Age, and featured work from such talents as Lou Fine, Jack Cole, Reed Crandall, Al Bryant, Bill Ward, Gill Fox, and the Great Will Eisner.

During the War Years as with many other publishers 'Mystery Men' were all the rage and Quality had some of the best including;

Black Condor,The Ray,Captain Triumph,Firebrand,The Invisible Hood,Human Bomb,The Jester,Neon,Red Bee,The Spider,WonderBoy,Midnight,Marksman,Quicksilver,and Manhunter,not to mention UNCLE SAM and KID ETERNITY who both starred in there own short lived books.

Come wars end things began to change, Military Comics was 'demobed' and became MODERN COMICS and the super heroes began to decline in popularity but Arnold's company kept up with the trends by putting out a host of New titles like;

BUCCANEERS,THE SPIRIT,TORCHY,T-MAN,THE BARKER,ROBIN HOOD,DANIEL BOONE, CRACK WESTERN,G.I.COMBAT and WEB OF EVIL.

Although in keeping with the times it was books like the last title which almost brought about the end of the comic book industry in the mid 50's
so in 1956 Arnold closed shop selling many of his properties to DC Comics, although a few of his features appeared to fall into other hands for a while.

The original comics haven't been reprinted very much, and definitely deserve to be seen which is where this group comes in.
