Group Description

The USAF QU-22 entered the Viet Nam war in 1969 as an electronic signal relay aircraft, working within the "Igloo White" Infiltration data collection program.

Despite considerable research, testing and modification, the demands of the mission profile upon this civilian light aircraft (Beech Bonanza) were beyond its capabilities as modified to meet USAF requirements.

Three pilots and eight of the 29 aircraft deployed were lost in South East Asia--none to enemy action--in addition to one test pilot fatality in the USA.

The QU-22 was withdrawn from USAF service in 1972.
