Group Description

The Project aims to assist in rehabilitating inmates and enhancing the management of the jail system by providing volunteers to aid in the delivery of social services in the jail. Almost four years since the official launching of the program in 1997, Pahinungóds to QC Jail saw to embellishing the indelible UP mark in the community of detainees through delivery of various social services such as paralegal lectures, case monitoring, tutorial, livelihood, counseling and research.

The Project serves as an avenue to promote awareness among the UP students and faculty about a jail community and its people debunking the stereotype perception of most people about detainees. Volunteers provide tutorials to inmates who are under the functional literacy program provided by the jail management. Through paralegal assistance, volunteers follow up on cases to ensure justice is served the soonest possible time as well as educate inmates and jail guards on their rights and obligations.

Reflection and research papers done by volunteers provide valuable insights on how jail conditions and the penal system can be improved. To alleviate the poor living conditions of inmates, Pahinungód also sponsors recreational activities such as mini-concerts and sports fest.
