Read this AM on AMG All Music Guide:

Just weeks after the passing of Syd Barrett, the world loses another
psychedelic rock legend in Arthur Lee, the charismatic and sometimes
controversial founder of Love. His life and music challenged
convention: Not only did he fuse together garage-rock, psychedelic and
folk music with his band, Love was also one of the most prominent
multiracial bands of the 1960s. Despite troubles with the law in
the '80s and '90s — including a conviction for illegal possession of a
firearm, for which he served six years in prison before the charge was
overturned — in the 2000s Lee's music was more respected than ever,
thanks in part to the reissue of Love's masterpiece Forever Changes.
