TWO BANDS ANNOUNCED FOR NEARFEST 2005: KENSO & RIVERSIDE

      KENSO! BONZAI!

Formed in 1974 by Yoshihisa Shimizu with his fellow high school
musicians, Kenso has built a cult following in progressive rock
circles over the last 30 years. Their unique brand of guitar and
keyboard driven symphonic fusion infused with some jamband leanings
has something for everyone. The vituosity of the players and the
dynamics of the music make for an explosive combination. The band
blew away the crowd at ProgFest 2000 and has not been in the States
since. The excellent live album "Ken-Son-Gu-Su" (recorded for their
25th anniversary) is the perfect starting place for the Kenso novice
and an aural extravaganza for long-time fan. Additionally, the band
has just released a stunning live DVD called "Ayr" for those wanting
a sneak peak at their energetic live show. The appearance of Kenso at
NEARfest has been in the works for a long time and finally, the
band's schedules have opened up enough for them to make the jump! We
are beyond thrilled to be able to present Kenso at NEARfest 2005!

LASER'S EDGE RECORDING ARTISTS, RIVERSIDE, TO PLAY NEARFEST 2005

Without doubt one of the brightest lights in song-based progressive
rock, the young Polish quartet Riverside is poised to capture a large
fan base with Out of Myself, their debut album for The Laser's Edge
to be released in September. Riverside creates a musical journey
through dark and moody atmospheres that find kindred spirits in
Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Anathema, and Pink Floyd. Warm vocals,
alternatingly soaring and biting guitars, and cinematic keyboards
mesh with a powerful rhythm section and melancholy yet hopeful lyrics
to forge an emotionally stirring sound that is significantly more
than the sum of its influences. With a diverse palette that
encompasses symphonic prog, psychedelia, prog metal and even
alternative rock, Riverside will thrill the festival audience in
the "Sunday morning surprise" slot at NEARfest 2005.
