Zaentz Media Center/BFSS: 3/17/11 screening: Berkeley in the Sixties
- Subject: Zaentz Media Center/BFSS: 3/17/11 screening: Berkeley in the Sixties
Wareham Development continues the monthly Berkeley Filmmakers Screening Series, established to showcase the award-winning independent cinema of the filmmakers at and around the Zaentz Media Center, 2600 Tenth Street, in Berkeley.
The series continues on March 17, at 7pm, with the screening of Berkeley in the Sixties by filmmaker Mark Kitchell. The film brings to life all the protest movements that gripped America during the 1960s. Beginning with demonstrations against the House Un-American Activities Committee and the birth of the Free Speech Movement around a police car in Sproul Plaza, the film weaves together civil rights marches, anti-war protests, the counter-culture, women’s liberation and the rise of the Black Panthers--capturing the events in all their immediacy and passion. Nominated for an Oscar and winner of numerous top honors, by now the film is a well-loved classic. (Not only is it a hometown film, but it was made in the very room where it will be screening!)
Filmmaker Mark Kitchell will lead a Q & A after the screening and will be on hand with DVDs for sale.
Tickets are free, but seating is limited and by reservation only. Previous screenings have sold out.
