Thinking Outside the Doc Box, the latest Film Arts Forum, breaks the popular myth that broadcasters and programmers primarily are seeking character driven documentaries. Representatives from ITVS, New Doc Editing and the Film Society will share ideas and techniques aimed at fostering truly innovative documentary storytelling. Read more.

SNEAK PREVIEW OF A FILM ABOUT STEPHIN MERRITT AND THE MAGNETIC FIELDS

SF360 Film+Club presents a Sneak Preview of a Film About Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields in conjunction with the Magnetic Fields' Bay Area appearances closing the Noise Pop music festival.
Guests expected for a question-and-answer session following the screening include Merritt; bandmate, manager and longtime friend Claudia Gonson and co-director Kerthy Fix.
Tickets are $12 for SFFS Members and $15 for the public. Tickets are on sale now. Seating is limited, so arrive early (plenty of standing room).

FROM COLLEGE TO CANNES CONTEST
The Film Society's Colleges & Universities program, with the generous support of the Consulate General of France in San Francisco and the French American Cultural Society, announces the first ever From College to Cannes Contest.
One American college student will win a free trip to attend the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2010, courtesy of the French government. Prize package includes airfare, nine days' accommodations (May 13-22) and tickets to festival screenings, parties and events.
