Wareham Development continues the monthly Berkeley Filmmakers Screening Series, established to showcase the award-winning independent cinema of the filmmakers at and around the Zaentz Media Center, 2600 Tenth Street, in Berkeley.
The series continues on September 15, at 7 p.m., with the screening of Documenting the Face of America co-produced by Catherine and Jeanine Butler.
"If you could get all the work that Stryker was responsible for, you would see the face of America in the 1930s and '40s that nobody has ever seen together."  -- Gordon Parks, Photographer

Nominated for a 2009 National Emmy, Documenting the Face of America tells the dramatic story of how an unlikely group of photographers, artists and government bureaucrats worked together for social change and created one of the most astonishing portraits of America ever compiled. The film shows  the stories behind the lens of such legendary documentary photographers Gordon Parks, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Ben Shahn, and showcases  the state of America in the 1930s and 40s. This national treasure chronicles the heartbreak of the Dust Bowl era all the way through the forced relocation of Japanese- Americans at the outset of World War II. Today this vast collection of over 164,000 photographs--many never before seen by the public-- remains hauntingly relevant to our lives today. Visit the film's website at www.documentingamerica.org

Producer Catherine Butler will host a Q & A after the screening.
Tickets are free, but seating is limited and by reservation only.  Previous screenings have sold out.
