      Hello;
If anyone researching ships Masters come across any information about my great grandfather, James Rankin of Roanheads or his father Thomas Rankin, I would appreciate it. I have mush of the usual genealogical information but little or none of their sailing careers.
      Regards
      William Leslie

      Hi

I did a study on maritime losses from Peterhead 1870-1880 earlier this year.
Unfortunately although I knew of the death of Alexander Matthew, age 46, there
is not much information available. The death is registered in the Marine
Register 020/MR0143 but no marital or parents details are given.

The following is from the Aberdeen Weekly Journal, dated Wednesday, November 15,
      1876

LOSS OF LONDON BARQUE AND TEN LIVES – New York papers received at Cork contain a
Yokohama telegram respecting the wreck on September 11, on one of the Loochoo
Islands, of the London barque, Theseus, from Manilla for San Francisco. The
captain, first mate, and eight others drowned.

The loss was not covered by the Peterhead newspaper the "Buchan Observer."

      Regards.

      Alison

Can anyone help please, my gt uncle ALEXANDER MATHEW died aboard the "THESEUS"
{or the " THESENS"} of London on the 16th May 1876 at sea aged 46, no cause of
death was reported by the crew. At the time of his death his residence was given
as Peterhead and his brother THOMAS MATHEW ship builder of Peterhead was named
in SP Wills & Testaments search. I believe he owned shares in this vessel and
another one, I am looking for any information on said ALEXANDER MATHEW, ie was
he married with a family, when and where was he born I believe it was Peterhead
but cannot verify it. My gt grandfather's name was ROBERTSON MATHEW although the
      surname is sometimes spelt MATTHEW.

      regards Chick Mathew.
