Our James HAY was living at the Mill of Auquharney at the time of the 1891 Census. I realize that is sometime after the dates given for John and William HAY. However, we are having trouble tracing our James back any further - I wonder if there is some connection??
      Cheers

The HAY family I am searching lived at Leask & Auquharney from early
in the 1700s to about 1760, as far as I know. The father was John HAY,
an advocate, with daughters only. Related was William HAY who was the
Minister at Cruden from 1743 until he died in 1777. He had children
but don't know if there were grandchildren. All too early to connect
to the families under discussion. Very frustrating.
