      Dear Alex
Thank you very much for this information. It fills in a bit of our family tree so that is wonderful.
I have made a note of possible sources and you never know, one day I might just come over and carry out on the spot research.
      In the meantime............
      Cheers

      For Margaret Hector :

      Hi Margaret,
William Boyd was born around 1810, son of William Boyd & Dorothy Smith. He married Jane Lawrance on July 2nd.1839 and I know that a son (Charles Lawrance Boyd) was born April 27th.1840 and they lived on Rose Street then.

He died on October 26th.1841 in Calcutta when he was master of the "Mary Gray". I don't believe that the ship went down. He may have been lost overboard or died of an accident. His residence then was St.Peter's Street.
He owned 12/64 shares in the "Mary Gray".

I think it might be difficult to get any more detail regarding his death. Possible sources would be back-copies of the "Aberdeen Journal" around that date (They are micro-filmed and are in Aberdeen Central Library). There are no Peterhead newspapers which go back that far. The other possibility would be to look for records of the voyage (crew agreement, ship's log etc.) which just might give you the circumstances of his death. For that the best place to go would be the Public Records Office at Kew, London. I don't know if either of these options are possible for you ?

      Hope this helps............................Alex Ritchie
