      For Martin Skelton :
Martin, the Boil Yards were where they "boiled down" the whale carcasses to run off the oil etc. There were several in Peterhead at the height of the whaling. I can remember the remnants of one at Shiprow over on Keith Inch which people always referred to as the "blubber box". Apparently there was quite a smell around the town when that boiling process was taking place !!.
George Skelton's Boil Yard was on Castle Street over on Keith Inch. It was sometimes known as the Peterhead Whale Fishing Company.

There are no traces left now of any of these boil yards since Keith Inch was "re-developed" for the Oil Industry needs.

      Alex Ritchie.
