          Catherine,
Just a note of thanks for the work you have done providing the Seaman's
List. I was able to locate several relations residing at Longate and
          Seagate. This is fantastic!
          Regards,

            Hi Catherine,

I've transcribe and indexed the 1851 census and as you said, the 1851
census did not record the seamen that were at sea, like in the 1841
census. The only way to find them is if they were mentioned in crew
agreements, not an easy search either.

            Regards, Wade.

Hi I have only just found and joined this excellent group and within five minutes of browsing have come across the name of a person missing from a family of mine in the 1841 census.

I knew my ancestor's brother Alexander Brown later became a ship carpenter but he was missing from Longate Street in the 1841 census. This record posted here shows that he was in fact a seaman at the time.

So thank you very much for this post Catherine, even if it is nine years later!

              Kind regards,
              Jon
