- Dec 16, 2001For Shona :
If you live in Peterhead, the Library has the microfiche of the IGI & Parish Records index, and Census films for the local Parishes. They also have all the back copies of the "Buchan Observer" on microfilm.
The Registrar's Office in Arbuthnot house has the burial records for the burial grounds and, of course, the statutory records (Births, Deaths & Marriages from 1855 onwards) but they charge for a search.
One of the best places to go is the Aberdeen & North East Scotland Family History shop on King Street, Aberdeen. You can take out membership for £15 per year. They have a great deal of local records plus the staff are very helpful.
Also, of course, Wade Buchan's website(s) are very helpful.
Start with something you know ( e.g. parents or grandparents marriage certificate) and work your way back.
Good Luck...............................................Alex Ritchie
