The American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), a bipartisan nonprofit organization that conducts international exchanges, is pleased to announce its intention to receive a delegation of young political leaders from the country of INDONESIA .  The program will take place from May 1 – 14, 2010.

Enclosed you will find an application for potential delegates to fill out in order to be considered as a participant in this year’s program.  Also enclosed is background material on ACYPL for your consideration.  We invite you to review this material, and if you are interested in participating please respond with a completed application no later than February 18, 2010.  ACYPL will contact you shortly thereafter to notify you of our decision.

    Details of the Program

Delegates to the United States from Indonesia will participate in a two-week program designed to provide opportunities to study United States government as well as foster relations between and among the next generation of political leadership in Indonesia and the United States .  The delegation will travel first to Washington , DC for a series of meetings with US federal government officials, then to two American states to discuss issues in local and state government.  Throughout the program, there will be opportunities for open discussions among the delegates on their experiences with governance and its inherent challenges, on civic participation, international relations, and other topics selected by the delegates themselves.

Regarding finances, all elements of the program in the United States , including travel, accommodations, meals, and cultural events will be covered by ACYPL.  Transportation to the United States from Indonesia for this program will be covered by ACYPL.  Other expenses such as phone calls, laundry, and other personal items will be the responsibility of the delegates.

    Participation in the Program

All ACYPL programs incorporate the emerging political leadership (ages 25-40) of its partner countries, seeking to prepare tomorrow’s decision-makers to responsibly face important international issues. For this program, seven (7) will be chosen to participate (please see the Delegate Selection Guidelines for application information).  The participants will come from both local and national governments to allow for a variety of perspectives and to demonstrate that, to be effective, a spirit of cooperation must exist at all levels of government.  Delegates will be selected to ensure a balance in political representation, geography, and gender within the delegation.
