- DREaM International Students Summer Program for A Better Understanding Among Nations: Research of Disaster Management, Cultural Empowerment, and Microeconomics
DREaM at a glance
DREaM International Students Summer Program will be held from 21 July 2009 to 30 July 2009. The participants are from various countries such as Australia, China, Denmark, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Senegal, USA, etc. The program is designed according to on field study approach and intercultural exchange program. The flexibility of the program will give you the opportunity to participate in both small group workshops as well as whole group activities to ensure positive friendship networks throughout the week. Our aim is to increase your awareness in order to be part of the global society through academic approach. By the end of the program you will hopefully gain more insight and inspirations through the activities and acquisition of new skills.Workshops will be challenging, fun, and practical; offering a combination of interactive lectures, group work, and presentations. To explore the program, participants will be guided to do researches about Disaster Management around Mount Merapi and Bantul, Cultural Empowerment at various temples, and Microeconomics at small medium enterprises in Bantul and in Sleman. Students are able to choose one of the research topics depends on their interest. Participants will be divided into specific topics groups; each group will contain two foreign students and one Indonesian student. In each group, they will attend general lectures based on their research topic. They have to make their research planning at field trips. By the end of the program they will have to present what they have worked on.There will be some activities such as field trips, community service, extreme sport, and performance art from participating different countries. During the program the participants will not only interact with fellow participants, but also with local residents in the villages by indulging themselves in UGM’s Field College-Work (KKN) Program. Participants will also be driven to elaborate the diverse beauty of famous Hindu temples and Buddhist temples in Yogyakarta. The participants will also perform cultural acts based on their country origin.Facilities
The DREaM International Students Summer Program is completely free of charge. Besides the aforementioned program, UGM also provides other accommodations, such as10 days-stay in state-of-the-art hotels, meals, field trips (transportation and tickets included).Who can apply?
All International students studying in Universitas Gadjah Mada are eligible to participate. Students will be expected to have exceptional skills of written and spoken English. All participants are required to send CV and one page of essay on their preferred DREaM research topic before 15 July 2009 via email. The committee will select 20 foreign students and 10 Indonesian students in accordance with their CV and research topic. The selected participants will be informed at the latest by17 July 2009.Further Information
