A full-time PhD Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships
(MQRES) is currently available in the Division of Information and
Communication Sciences for a project on rigorous mathematical methods
      in
      direct and inverse scattering.
Improvements in modern technologies, such as radar and other imaging
devices, that exploit the information carried by electromagnetic waves,
depend centrally upon advances in the mathematics of waves to give
      precise,
reliable and effective means of predicting how objects capture and
re-radiate wave energy in the scattering environment. Image
      reconstruction
quality is heavily dependent on the underlying algorithm, and even
      modest
improvements can greatly enhance its useability. This project develops
      new
mathematical approaches, based on analytical regularisation and related
techniques, to the direct and inverse problems of wave scattering by
      objects
      with complex scattering mechanisms.
MQRES scholarships are available to domestic and international
      students.
Applicants should have completed either an Australian undergraduate
      degree
with first class honours (mathematics/applied mathematics/theoretical
physics/radio physics or closely related discipline) or equivalent
      research
qualifications, such as a Masters degree with substantial thesis
      component.
Early career professionals interested in returning to higher degree
      studies
      are particularly encouraged to apply.
The MQRES stipend is currently $19,616 p.a. tax exempt (2007). Tenure
is 3.5years full-time, subject to satisfactory progress with tuition
      fees funded
for the scholarship tenure. Additional support for project costs and
conference travel will also be available.

Modelling and Analysis of Quantitative Security and Safety Critical
      Systems
A full-time Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships
      (MQRES) is
currently available for a PhD investigating the modelling and analysis
      of
quantitative security and safety critical systems. The robustness of
security and safety critical systems depends crucially on the
      information
available to the controlling software. This project will investigate
mathematical techniques for evaluating the safety and security issues
      of
software where information protection is a significant factor.
      Applications
could include protocols for the internet, wireless networks, smartcards
      and
e-voting. The research will focus particularly on applying and
      developing
automated analysis techniques for quantitative verification and
      evaluation
      of novel applications.
MQRES scholarships are available to domestic and international
      students.
Applicants should have completed equivalent research qualifications to
      an
Australian undergraduate degree with first class honours in a relevant
discipline, such as a Masters degree with substantial thesis component.
      We
are seeking high calibre, suitably qualified Mathematics, Engineering,
Computing or equivalent graduates. Early career professionals
      interested in
returning to higher degree studies are particularly encouraged to
      apply.
The MQRES stipend is currently $19,616 p.a. tax exempt (2007). Tenure
is 3.5years full-time, subject to satisfactory progress with tuition
      fees funded
for the scholarship tenure. Additional support for project costs and

Subject: [DevJobsIndo] [INFO] FASID FIELDWORK PROGRAM 2007 <<Call for Application>>

      FASID Fieldwork
      Program
      Interdisciplinary
      training for graduate students
and young professionals in community development
      Pinrang
      Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia
      July 25 - August 12, 2007

      Welcome to
      fieldwork!
      Fieldwork is an
endeavor to travel an unknown path. To reach the final destination, the
fieldworker collects many pieces of information and investigates what they
mean. The compass is the fieldworker' s sensibility and reason. There is no
      shortcut or fast track.

      Another aspect of
fieldwork is to immerse oneself in relationships with others. People in front
of you are not simple objectives of research. The longer you stay in a
location, the closer you become to them. "How do I relate to my host
family, their neighbors, village officials or extension workers?"
"How do I live in these relationships? " Fieldwork gives us many
chances to think about these fundamental questions.

      Join our Program! We
guarantee that your experiences in the Program will become a firm foundation on
      which to build your future.

      Program Objectives
      By the end of this
19-day program, participants will be better prepared for independent fieldwork
      by

      learning the basic principles of
fieldwork on social development issues;strengthenin g their capacity to grasp a
holistic picture of the community where fieldwork is conducted; andbuilding skills to work in a
      multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse team.

Subject: [DevJobsIndo] Report Writer and Knowledge Sharing Facilitator
              Terms of Reference
Report Writer and Knowledge Sharing Facilitator
              1. Background:
The South-South Grants Facility was established by the Special Unit in
2005 to facilitate the implementation of grants programmes and to
enable Southern Countries contributors to pool resources in
South-South cooperation that would support specific community
development agents on initiatives tailored to local needs. The SSGF
intends to support some of the most difficult issues in development
such as disaster management. In this context, grants are an important
way to complement large national recovery plans with small-scale local
              action.
Based on the contributions mobilized from developing countries towards
the tsunami recovery, SSGF Phase I provided grants to support
community work addressing livelihood recovery & development in the
four most affected countries: Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Maldives and
              Thailand.
After reviewing the good quality outcomes and results of Phase I, it
was, decided in 2006 to extend the SSGF for another year, named Phase
II, with increased contributions to the programme. India was included
              in this Phase.
After Phase II, the resources mobilized for the programme are mostly
spent or committed. Therefore it is important to document the
activities supported by the programme, identify the main lessons
learned and to share the relevant experiences. The knowledge sharing
process will be further strengthened by combining it with the
additional concerns for raising the visibility of the programme
accomplishments and creating information adequate to mobilize further
              partnerships.
The UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme Indonesia is the partner of SSGF
in providing services for this small grants mechanism with scope of
work in Aceh and Jogjakarta. As one of the oldest existing small
granting mechanisms in tsunami-affected countries, the SSGF benefited
from the spirit of voluntarism of the the National Steering Committee,
rosters of experts, and existing networks to make the programme
              efficient and non-bureaucratic.
Currently, our team required further assistance for report writer and
knowledge sharing facilitator that will therefore produce:
              1. A consolidated report of the activities supported by the SSGF
              (phase I and II) for each country;
              2. A volume of the series Sharing Innovative Experiences (SIE) focused
on Successful experiences on livelihood development in communities
affected by the tsunami (Aceh and Nias) and earthquake (Yogyakarta) ,
              collecting 25-30 best case; and,
              3. A collection of video documentaries, one for each country and one
with a consolidated overview of the programme.
The publication of the Sharing Innovative Experiences volume involves:
              1. the selection of the a number of best cases by a local editorial
              board for each country
              2. the presentation of the selected cases in a international workshop
              (in English);
              3. the write up of the final version;
Some of those best cases will be further chosen by a video producer
appointed by the Special Unit for the production of one documentary
per country (5-7 minutes) and video documentary for the overall SSGF
              programme.
              2. Deliverables:
The "Report Writer and Knowledge Sharing Facilitator" will support the
