Is NASA Preparing Us For Earthquakes?...08/11/03
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)
There is something about this timing that is a bit unsettling. A public
announcement was just released moments ago, telling us
Nasa is ready to predict earthquakes. That's right, predict earthquakes. It
was just last year, Nasa went public shunning the
possibility of predicting earthquakes. Why the sudden turn around?
Nasa makes this announcement "High above Earth where seismic waves never
reach, satellites may be able to detect
earthquakes--before they strike." Nasa claims they have satellite technology
which can detect tectonic plate movement.
Nasa says they are working hard to have a system in place "giving the public
and emergency planners time to
"There are several satellite-based methods that show promise as precursors
to earthquake activity," says Jacob Yates, a
researcher at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. "One method is
Interferometric-Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR).
Basically, InSAR is when two radar images of a given tectonic area are
combined in a process called data fusion, and any
changes in ground motion at the surface may be detected."
Folks, the "super-duper doppler weatherman" is alive and well. It just may
be, even with the down time of SOHO, we will
see our local and national weather personalities giving forecast which
includes space weather such as solar flares, cme's,
geomagnetic storms, and now....earthquake predictions!
Nasa reports one of their methods is to monitor "slow fluctuations in
Earth's magnetic field". Scientists doing research with
magnetometers just before major earthquakes have serendipitously recorded
tiny, slow fluctuations in Earth's magnetic field.
One example happened during the Loma-Prieta earthquake that devastated San
Francisco in 1989. Almost 2 weeks before
the quake, readings of low-frequency magnetic signals (0.01-0.02 Hz) jumped
up to 20 times above normal levels, and then
spiked even higher the day of the quake. (see equation)
It's all about magnetics! Just as the equation can predict extreme weather,
such can be monitored for electro-magnetic flux as
outlined above. We do indeed live in exciting times.

A quick question. As predicted in my August 1st article titled -My Battle
Between 'Disclosure vs Omission'-
looks like I am going to be typing double time
in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Do you still wish to receive breaking
news reports such as this one, as they occur?
Be sure and tune into this weeks guest on Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour"!
Tuesday August 12th - Dr. Bruce Cornet---Geologist, Paleobotanist,
Palynologist, and Oil Explorer. Post-doctorate
research in geology and paleobotany at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory,
Columbia University (1989-1990). Author
and coauthor of 21 refereed scientific papers and two books, all on
paleontological and/or geological subjects. 14 years
experience in the oil industry, and President of Geminoil, Inc., which
successfully explored for and found oil on the East
Coast in Triassic age rocks thought to be barren of hydrocarbons (just
before the collapse of the oil industry in the early
1980's). Website: http://www.monmouth.com/%7Ebcornet/index.htm#Paleontology
Thursday August 14th - Jim Berkland---USGS Geologist (retired) Jim has
published more than 50 scientific papers related
to geology and seismology. Jim Berkland is best known for his accuracy rate
in predicting earthquakes.
Tuesday August 19th - Ian Lungold---Ian has spent many years studying the
Maya culture, and is one of the few who can
truly read and assess the Mayan Calendar. Website:
