  • Hi, Hiri, is usually translated as shame of doing evil deeds and Ottappa and fear of the results of evil deeds. I thoght that in Buddhism, we are not encourage to have fear and I believe that fear is a negative emotion. So are shame. Venerable Piyasilo translate hiri as "self respect" and Ottappa as "other respect", or simply as "love and respect". He wrote: Moral shame (hiri) and...

  • Hi, I checked again and this is what I found. ".....that anything is not suitable to settle..." But I still fail to find this reference in the sutta: Then, the Buddha emphasized this point by saying that whoever had heard this core phrase had heard all of Buddhism; whoever had put this into practice had practiced all of Buddhism; and whoever had received the fruits of practicing it...

The Buddha replied that he could , and he said "Sabbe dhamma nalam abhinivesaya". "Sabbe...
