      Translate into English

      1."Sace bhava.m So.nada.n.do sama.na.m Gotama.m dassanaaya
      upasa'nkamissati, bhoto So.nada.n.dassa yaso parihaayissati;
      sama.nassa Gotamassa yaso abhiva.d.dhissati."D. i, 113.
      [Diighanikaayo, Siilakkhandhavaggapaa.li, 4. So.nada.n.dasutta.m,
      So.nada.n.dagu.nakathaa]
      if / Venerable / So.nada.n.da / recluse / Gotama / [for] insight /
      approaches / [of] Venerable / [of] So.nada.n.da / fame / will fall
      away from / [of] recluse / [of] Gotama / fame / will increase
      [with] whom / [with] oneself / goes / realm of Brahma
      If Venerable So.nada.n.da approaches recluse Gotama for insight, the
      fame of Venerable So.nada.n.da will decrease; the fame of recluse
      Gotama will increase.

      2."So gantvaa ta.m bhatta.m pa~ncahi pacceka-buddhasatehi saddhi.m

      he / from there / fallen away / [in] heaven / having been born /
      [amongst] gods and humans / moving about continuously / [in] this /

      of milionnaire / arose
      Having fallen away from there, he was reborn in heaven, then being
      reborn and passing away continuously amongst god and humans, he was
      born in the city of Bhaddiya in the family of a milionnaire.

      4."So...nikkhitta-dha~n~ne parikkhii.ne parijana.m pakkosaapetvaa
      aaha; 'gacchathta, taataa, pabbata.m pavisitvaa jiivantaa
      subhikkhakaale mama santika.m aagantukaamaa aagacchatha;
      anaagantukaamaa tatth' eva jiivathaa' ti." Dh. A. iii, 366.

      female slaves / having seen / go away / badly trained / not / you /
      our / [of] lady / on / boiled butter / to pour / suitable / menacing /
      having struck / [on] earth / caused to fall (fell)
      Having filled again the spoon and taken it the female slaves of Uttara
      saw her coming and menacing her said : "Go away, you foolish one, it
      is not suitable to pour boiled butter on our lady" ... they struck her
      and caused it [the spoon] to fall on the ground.

      6."Seyyathaa pi bhante nikkujjita.m vaa ukkujjeyya, pa.ticchanna.m vaa
      vivareyya, muu.lhassa vaa magga.m aacikkheyya...evam eva.m Bhagavataa
      anekapariyaayena dhammo pakaasito" D. ii, 41, etc. [Diighanikaayo,
      Mahaavaggapaa.li, 1. Mahaapadaanasutta.m, Aggasaavakayuga.m]
      just as / Venerable / turned downward / or / should turn up / covered
      / or / should be uncovered / [to] foolish / or / path / should inform
      / just so / Buddha / [through] many ways / Dhamma / expounded
      Just as what is turned downward should be turned up, or what is
      covered should be uncovered, the path should be shown to the
      foolish...Just so the Buddha has expounded the Dhamma in many ways.

      7."Atha kho Amba.t.tho maa.navo yena so vihaaro sa.mvuta-dvaaro tena
      appasaddo upasa'nkamitvaa ataramaano aalinda.m pavisitvaa ukkaasitvaa
      aggala.m aako.tesi. Vivari Bhagavaa dvaara.m." Ibid. i, 89.

      then / Amba.t.tho / young man / where / the / dwelling / closed door /

      Then the young man Ambattha approached the closed door of the dwelling
      with little noise, unhurried entered the terrace, coughed and knocked
      on the latch. The Buddha opened the door.

      8."Atha kho Ambapaalii ga.nikaa Bhagavato adhivaasana.m viditvaa
      u.t.thaay aasanaa Bhagavanta.m abhivaadetvaa padakkhi.na.m katvaa
      pakkaami." D. ii, 95. [Diighanikaayo, Mahaavaggapaa.li, 3.
      Mahaaparinibbaanasutta.m, Ambapaaliiga.nikaa]
      then / Ambapaalii / courtezan / [of] Buddha / assent / having known /
      having risen / [from] seat / Buddha / having paid homage / going
      around passing to the right / went away
      Then the courtezan Ambapaalii understanding the Buddha's assent, rose
      from her seat, paid homage to the Buddha, passed him and went by to
      the right, and left.

      9."Attano vaamapaade dviihi a'nguliihi tassa paade gahetvaa
      vihaara'nga.ne pothento tato tato aaka.d.dhi. So parivattanto
      thaamasaa vissajjetu.m ussahanto pi vissajjetu.m naasakkhi."
      Rasavaahinii [Khuddakanikaaye, Jaatakapaa.li, 14. Paki.n.nakanipaato,

      It (the beast) took his foot with two fingers of its left foot, hit
      him in the courtyard of the monastery, and dragged him from there.
      While rolling he tried to release himself by force but was not able to.

      10."Atha yakkho gajjanto bhuje appo.thento abhidhaavi. Yodho pi tattha
      .thito vegena aakaasam abbhuggantvaa vaamapaada.nguliihi tassa

      then / demon / roaring / hands / strike / hastened / soldier / and /
      there / stood / quickly / sky / having jumped up / [with] the fingers
      of the left foot / his / jaw bone / hit
      Then the demon hastened, roaring and clapping his hands. The soldier
      standing there, quickly jumped in to the air and hit his jaw bone with
      the fingers of his left foot.
