Group Description

Pacific Coast Iris is the online name for the Society of Pacific Coast Native Iris. This society is dedicated to botany of, hybridizing and gardening with Calilfornicae Iris, species and hybrids. These beardless iris are native to the West Coast of North America.

PCIs like part shade, tolerate summer drought, winter wet, and grow naturally in zones 10-7; gardeners who have or create beds with excellent drainage may be successful in colder climates. In drier climates, more shade is suggested.

Members of SPCNI and irisarians from all over are welcome to join this online group, post comments, photos and questions about PCIs. The group is open to anyone interested in species, hybrids, gardening and other topics to do with Pacific Coast Iris.

SPCNI is a geographically far-flung group, with members in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. We meet in North America at American Iris Society conventions, and for Treks, typically every other year, on the West Coast.

PCI Harry's Rootbeer was developed by Bob Sussman, and flowered in my garden for the first time. It also set a nice seed pod, not bad for its first year.
