Group Description

This group is an open forum for discussion of K-12 mathematics education and advocacy in Prince William County Schools. We are a coalition of parents, teachers and concerned citizens working to bring "real math" back to our schools and improve the math education in Prince William County Schools.

Background: PWCS Superintendent and Math Department, with the approval of the PWC School Board have replaced the traditional math program in our elementary schools with a constructivist math curriculum (AKA – Fuzzy Math), specifically TERC's Math Investigations (MI). The TERC curriculum was implemented in PWCS K-2 in 2006-7, 3rd in 2007-8, 4th in 2008-9, and 5th 2009-2010.

Math Investigations, Everyday Math and other Fuzzy math programs across the country have failed, but here it is again despite of mountains of adverse data and serious concerns that have been voiced by parents, teachers, scientists, and mathematicians.

Our intent is to provide a forum for PWCS parents, teachers and concerned citizens to voice their opinions on the PWCS math curriculum. We strive to raise the standards for education in PWC and bring a quality mathematics curriculum to all PWCS schools.
