      VVIP security : status-symbol

It refers to Supreme Court rightly expressing concern on misusing a large fleet of police-force on providing security to VVIPs. Red-light cars and a fleet of security-persons by those in politics are now-a-days mainly required for status-symbol rather than actual necessity. An appreciable part of available security forces is misused for such status symbol where many misuse security-personnel for even household jobs. Case of killing of Lalit Maken should not be forgotten when the security-persons on duty were somewhere else at time of killing. Drastic cut in security to undeserving ones like ordinary MLAs, MPs, ministers and other politicians can be better utilized for security of general public. Prime Minister of a country in response to demand of Parliamentarians there replied that those sensitive to their lives, need not contest elections at all! Same principle should be followed in India. However security must be continued to be provided for those who really deserve it like President, Vice President, Prime Minister and few others. Traffic-movement of such VVIPs should be minimized by tele-inauguration of events, and/or by holding functions at their official residences rather than at other venues.

At the same time, immunity from security-check at airports to some ones is absolutely unnecessary and rather can be misused by political heavyweights in present era of corruption amongst politicians. There have been Chief Ministers like Madhu Koda who can misuse such immunity for transferring unaccounted cash especially at time of elections. Immunity from security checks at airports in no way provides some security to persons entitled for such immunity.
