  • Austin Blame it on my use of a scanner. The letters are not raised above the surface of the clay but sunk in to it. The polymer is used like an engraving or type, and the clay like paper. You are seeing the end product. A clay tablet. One of the photos shows the relative thickness of the tablet. Special clay etc had to be figured out to make it work. Hope that explains it good...

  • Last summer a felllow by the name of Mariner Ezra Padwa approached me with the idea of making contemporary cuneiform tablets with photopolymer. Interesting concept I thought and invited him to take my course at Art Center where a platemaker was waiting some use. He spent a semester working out the details but in the end nailed. Some pics are show here (I hope) and are in the photos...

  • Meant to put this up a while back, the transparent film adhesive interlay, the Italian manufactured BiesSse Tape Solutions most folks use with polyester-backed plates, is not only available from Boxcar and elum (or was with elum) but is also available from Adheso Graphics via Anderson & Vreeland. Not sure but this may have long, long been available from AG just not known to PPL...

  • Wally I use Toyobo simply because that is what I was introduced to when I started using photopolymer. This was 1991 or so. I was a client of Patrick Reagh. At the time the best plate around was the BASF, don’t think I even heard of the Jet until Boxcar began about a decade later. At any rate my connections were all with Toyobo and still are.
