Re: [PPLetterpress] Erbar Initials
- Hi Gerald,
I sent your enquiry to my typophile friend, Valerie Frey. Here is what
she has to say about Erbar:
According to the Encyclopedia of Type Faces by Jaspert, Berry & Johnson:
Designed by J. Erbar. One of the first and most popular of the new sans.
Ludwig & Mayer 1922-30 & 1960; Linotype (Frankfurt); Mergenthaler
Linotype 1933-37; Linotype (London); Typograph. But this is a full font
type face I'm seeing- not initials. It mentions a set of capitals, white
on black, called Lucina and an open version Lumina.
The Solotype catalogue (Dover) shows an Erbar Initial on p.23 which is
definitely different from the one above.
Rookledge's International Type finder shows and bar like the first one
above- (kind of like Spartan)
Hope this helps.
