patch the hole
- lots of progress on the press this weekend... after removing the bumpers at the end, i guided
the whole carriage off. i hope it'll go back on as easy as it came off. also, i noticed that after
taking off the guide rails, there were thin slices of lead underneath them. some had holes,
that corresponded with the screws. but i'm not sure about others. i'll take some photos. i'm
certain they were meant to be there. but i'm not sure how to put it back.
the very bottom of the press is pretty rusted through...
i snipped off the most brittle areas. ideally i'd like to turn the press on it's side, just so i can
remove the rust underneath. as for the areas that i cut, it's about 6-8" wide. how do i patch
that up? i know i should use 'bondo', but should i tape the holes first, then bondo it. a friend
mentioned using some sort of mesh instead of tape. any suggestions? ultimately the holes
are no big deal, since that won't effect printing. but might as well fix what i can.
