      Book Arts Studio Coordinator/Binding Instructor

      Full-time position with full University benefits

      Job Summary

      This position supports all Book Arts programming including campus, community outreach, and K-12 initiatives: classes, workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, presentations, training of teachers and volunteers. Depending on experience, the studio coordinator may assist in Red Butte Press printing and/or binding projects. Ideally, the studio coordinator will teach semester-length bookbinding classes as well as assisting other instructors, working directly with them to meet all venue, space, and equipment requirements; assisting in the preparation of all course materials; assisting instructors throughout courses. The studio coordinator assists in supervision of part-time staff and coordinates the studio volunteer program. The studio coordinator is responsible for oversight of all planning and staffing calendars, including scheduling of the entire Book Arts Program and Red Butte Press staff and volunteers as well as Independent Studio Users. The studio coordinator oversees public relations for the Program and Press, utilizing marketing materials that are produced by the Creative Director and Outreach Coordinator. This position also assists in the ongoing development of the history of the book K-12 curriculum, enhancement of resource materials, and creation of bookmaking instructions for all volunteer instructors. The Studio Coordinator works directly under the supervision of the Managing Director of the Book Arts Program and Red Butte Press.


      An MFA with an emphasis/certificate in bookbinding is strongly preferred. A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Humanities is required, with a preference for BA in fine arts or English. Two years experience working in a bindery or print shop, or teaching bookbinding is strongly preferred. This position requires a highly organized and disciplined individual with a commitment to outstanding job performance. Demonstrated communication and written skills are required, with a preference for previous public relations experience. Two years experience in letterpress printing is strongly preferred. Proficiency in word processing is required. Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is strongly preferred. Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Preference is given to the candidate with a general knowledge of the history of the book; and a basic knowledge of library organization, principles, and procedures.


      $30,000-$40,000 depending on binding experience
