Re: [PPLetterpress] Letterpress course offering
- Gerald--It sounds quite wonderful. Wish I lived closer and were uncommitted
in January. I've had Protean Press for over 20 years, but at about that
point one's habits of setting type have begun to overcome "the finer points"
unless, of course, the finer points have become part of your habits.
Have fun. Terry

I will once again be offering the letterpress course
Finer Points in Letterpress Typography
at Archetype Press in old town Pasadena
on Tuesday nights from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
beginning January 14 and running 14 weeks through April 15.
Phone 626-396-2319 (Art Center at Night) for registration information.
Archetype is the depository for the Vernon Simpson collection of metal
typefaces, one of the finer collections on the west coast. Presses
include six Vandercooks and a couple of C&Ps.

> Finer Points in Letterpress TypographyI'm taking this class now, and there are so many good reasons
to sign up, I can't begin. Whether you're interested in theory
or practice, Gerald is your man - he manages to both instill a
respect for letterpress (sans the cloying nostalgia) as well as
give all the insight needed in those 14 wonderful weeks, with
no preaching whatsoever. A surprising proportion of the class
is devoted to "self-study" - especially suitable to those who
already have some typographic attitudes in place.
And if you're not in Southern California, consider moving.
As we say: the weather is here, wish you were beautiful. ;-)
