We use both our Epson Artisan 50 and Artisan 1430 to make negatives with Bab's Waterproof inkjet film. This film works as well as lith film with our process camera at 1/3 the cost and actually get slightly sharper results. Since we don't have RIP software, halftones are still done with our process camera.
Early in my printing career, I worked as a photoengraver with zinc plates and early photopolymers weren't up to the task. The balance between the crisp look and feel of letterpress printing and the fine details possible with offset printing on enamel papers can lead to some heated discussions. Two completely different animals. With over 50 years in the business, I've heard it all.<g>. There is a place for all technologies.
Take a look at my YouTube video that shows this inkjet printer and waterproof film, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FedvcdgFH5o .
