Fw: Seaman's Day, Wed. July 11, at Fort Clatsop
- These videos took a long time to load on my work computer, but I invite you to give them a try if you missed Seaman's Day in the park last week.
One of our dog handlers from last week's Seaman's Day shared the following
links which are a nice sample of some of the special activities in the park

Dear Newfoundland dog handler,
Our park's annual Seaman's Day (in honor of Meriwether Lewis'
dog, Seaman) is approaching and I'm sending this message to folks who
participated in the past or mentioned owning a Newfoundland in case you
might be interested in this event. This year's event is scheduled for
Wednesday, July 11 at Fort Clatsop. We'll meet at the flagpole in front
the visitor center at 9:00 and have volunteer agreements and uniform
jackets/caps for participants (people - the dogs don't need to be in
uniform). We'll ask handlers to have their dogs in various locations
as the visitor center, the fort, and the Netul River Trail. Our goal for
the event is that any visitor who would like to meet a Newfoundland, gets
to - while visitors who don't want to meet one, still have a great visit
We'll probably have a talk about 11:30 and again at 3:30 on the role of
Seaman and "panel discussions" with all participants at 12:30 and 2:30
about the joys and challenges of living with a giant dog.
If your dog is trained in a special skill such as carting or water
please let me know and we'll see if we can work that into the schedule.
Please let me know if you and your dog plan to join in. If you know
someone else with a Newf, feel free to forward this to them.
Lewis and Clark NHP, Fort Clatsop
