The USS Hornet Museum would like to invite you and your organization to our next Living Ship Day. We hope to see you aboard and hope that you will share this invite with any other interested parties.
USS Hornet Museum Pays Tribute to WWII Veterans on June 19
Alameda , CA As part of its Living Ship Day series, the USS Hornet Museum will honor 35 Bay Area WWII veterans on Fathers Day, Sunday, June 19. Stories of Glory will be one of the largest gatherings of local surviving WWII veterans, who will represent all branches of the United States Armed Forces. The USS Hornet is located at 707 W. Hornet Ave. , Pier 3, in Alameda .
The day will feature two key speakers: Sgt. Francis Jeep Sanza of Napa, personal jeep driver to General Patton in Europe, and Lt. Cmdr. Ted Robinson, a Life Member of the Navy League's Sacramento Council, one of President John F. Kennedys rescuers after his PT-109 boat was sunk in 1943 and noted author of Water in my Veins: The Pauper Who Helped Save a President. Other veterans will also be available for a special meet and greet throughout the day, including four Tuskegee Airmen, a survivor of the USS Indianapolis sinking, and the first Ace from the famed Flying Tigers squadron.
Living Ship Day is a special event onboard Hornet that offers something for everyone. The museum comes to life as an operating aircraft carrier with flight simulations between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. as aircraft are lifted to the flight deck and placed into launch position. Visitors can meet former crew, sit in the cockpit of a fighter jet, and enjoy the sights and sounds of naval aviation. There will also be big band music by The Hornet Band at noon , followed by the Singing Blue Stars at 12:30 p.m.
Living Ship Day demonstrations are held on the third Saturday of most months. Normal museum hours and admission prices apply. Ample free parking is available across the street from the pier. The USS Hornet Museum is located at 707 W Hornet Ave , Pier 3 in Alameda .Heidi C. SchaveUSS Hornet MuseumEducation Department510-521-8448 x 224
