BRAVO ZULU to Karen Freitas, our council's Vice President - Youth Affaris, and the Arkansas Division Sea Cadets!
One note of clarity. The Pacific Merchant Marine Council supports the Arkansas Division Sea Cadets but is not the Division sponsor. That distinction goes to the Royal Canadian Legion, San Francisco Bay Area Branch 25. BRAVO ZULU to the post for their most valuable aid to the Cadets!
Also of special note Council Director - Youth Affairs and former Sea Cadet Chief Davis Freitas is now enrolled in the Seafarers International Union's Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship at the Paul Hall Center Piney Point Maryland on a full scholarship! Don't have the details but it all started when I met the president of the union Michael Sacco at the NLUS 2010 Convention in Jacksonville and he asked me if I knew a Sea Cadet within the Arkansas Division highly motivated to become a Seafarer. Davis was the recipient of our council's first Theadore Roosevelt Youth Medal for distinguished service - December 2009.
The Freitas family is one awesome family. We are most appreciative for their commitment, dedication, and involvement with the Sea Cadets and our Pacific Merchant Marine Council.
    Heave Ho,
    Phelps Hobart, President

    All Hands,

Our sponsor, the Royal Canadian Legion San Francisco Bay Area Branch, had it's membership meeting and luncheon today.

The activities today included the observance of Vimy Day. Vimy Ridge Day is a day to commemorate the sacrifice of members of the Canadian Corps during the First World War Battle of Vimy Ridge. The Battle of Vimy Ridge was the first occasion whereupon all four divisions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force participated in a battle as a cohesive formation, and thus became a Canadian nationalistic symbol of achievement and sacrifice.

Arkansas Division Instructor Karen Freitas and Instructor Alexey Sobolev, along with Seaman Katrin Freitas attended.

Instructor Sobolev accepted a donation of $1,000.00 for Arkansas Division from the Royal Canadian Legion San Francisco Bay Area Branch 25. He spoke to the members and thanked them for their continued support of USNSCC Arkansas Division.

Seaman Katrin Freitas served as hostess and spoke about the honor it has been to work with our Canadian Veteran friends, and to hear their stories and enjoy their sense of humor.

Instructor Karen Freitas was presented with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Service Medal which was awarded for her dedication and exemplary service to the Branch.
Thank you to INST Freitas, INST Sobolev and SN Freitas for representing Arkansas Division with distinction.

Let us continue to build on the great relationship between USNSCC Arkansas Division and RCL San Francisco Bay Area Branch.
