National Museum of the Marine Corps Virtual Experience
- I was fortunate to spend a couple of hours at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on June 13th after attending the NLUS National Directors board meeting in Arlington, VA. It is spectacular! From this observer's point of view, no expense was spared. Admission is free. Federal funds, via the USMC, were and are used. It sure tells the Marine Corps message. A fitting tribute to the Corps I give it high praise. Semper Fideles! Two days later I was fortunate to spend slightly less time in the Washington DC Navy Memorial Foundation and Naval Heritage Center, 701 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W. It too offers a lot though its space is limited. I really appreciated my visit with President and CEO RADM. Edward (Ted) K. Walker, Jr., SC, USN (Ret) and Nan McComber, of the Navy Log Department. As some of you know I was a Supply Corps when I served as a Naval Officer. Currently on display is a major exhibit devoted to the Supply Corps. Check the Naval Heritage Center out at www.navymemorial.org.Afterwards I experienced the relatively new (2004) World War II Memorial positioned on the Mall between the Lincoln and Washington memorials. Most impressive - a fitting tribute to all Americans who participated in winning that war, www.wwiimemorial.com and other URLs.PhelpsPhelps HobartSenior Vice PresidentPacific Central Region, NLUS______________________________----- Original Message -----From: StanEllexson at aol dot comSent: Tuesday, June 22, 2010Subject: Fwd: SNEAK PREVIEW! As promised to our faithful Marine Minute subscribers, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (MCHF) is proud and excited to bring you this special sneak peak preview of the National Museum of the Marine Corps’s (NMMC) new, state-of-the-art Virtual Experience. The MCHF will officially launch the Virtual Experience to the public on June 23rd, allowing Marines and civilians from all over the world to experience a cutting-edge web version of the real Museum located in Quantico, Virginia.
With in-depth, special educational features on exhibits, galleries and artifacts as well as Museum docents sharing their stories of Marine Corps history, the Virtual Experience will bring the NMMC right into your home or classroom. Through a series of high-definition, 360 degree panoramic tours, audio narratives and extensive multi-media presentations, experience the Museum as if you are actually there. Zoom in close to experience the details of the Legacy Walk Timeline; watch custom videos made exclusively for the NMMC; and view 3-D models of aircraft and other large-scale artifacts throughout the Museum. We hope you enjoy this new resource and take as much pride in it as you do in our National Museum of the Marine Corps.
