Academy Information Night
- View SourceMembers and Friends,All of the academies are top notch but the Naval Academy and Merchant Marine Academy are two of the best avenues for aggressive young people to pursue a career in the United States Merchant Marine. These events provide an introduction but actually if I were the potential candidate, I would do considerable research before seeing these recruiters. Please encourage the youth you know to consider this educational and service option.Phelps____________________________----- Original Message -----From: Phelps HobartSent: Sunday, August 31, 2008 8:49 PMSubject: Academy Information NightPlease support these Academy Information events; encourage Sea Cadets and others you believe would be physically and mentally able to meet the rigors of academy life to contact their member of Congress. If you know of other academy information events please notify the Pacific Central Region Online Newsletter and we will post notice of them as well.PhelpsPhelps HobartWeb YeomanPacific Central Region, NLUSMERCED SUN-STAR

'Academy Information Night' to enlighten students, parents about military training
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, and George Radanovich, R-Mariposa, will sponsor "Academy Information Night" to familiarize high school juniors and seniors, their parents and high school guidance counselors with educational and career opportunities available at the U.S. military service academies. This informative seminar is an opportunity for all high school students within the 18th and 19th Congressional Districts to discuss the requirements and procedures for seeking a nomination to the academies.
Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be available to answer questions at the open house.
Members of the Congressmen's staff will also be available for consultation and will provide service catalogs, application kits, and other descriptive materials. There will also be a power point presentation and a video presentation.
Academy Information Night will be held Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harvest Hall located at the Stanislaus County Ag Center, 3800 Cornucopia Way, Modesto. All interested parties are invited to attend.
Each member of Congress is allowed a total of five appointees in each service academy. For each vacancy, Congressman Cardoza can nominate 10 individuals. Those interested in applying may download a copy of the application at www.house.gov/cardoza.
