USCG- Future Merchant Mariner Credentialing Program

The US Coast Guard posted a three page article entitled “The Future of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Merchant Mariner Credentialing Program”.  The article envisions full electronic credentialing in the near term. It is in PDF format so to read it please visit

It is written by Captain David Stalfort, USCG, the Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard's new National Maritime Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Not a bad read in all honesty.

For more on the Center and what it is doing, visit http://www.uscg.mil/stcw/index.htm.
I found the information at http://www.MarineLink.com. It is a news source incorporating both Marine News and Maritime Reporter. Subscriptions to these two magazines are free to individuals involved in the maritime trades but for those with internet access, reading it online may be preferred.
