Dear Region Leaders,
Its that time again, summer is in full swing, and were on track for our annual Pacific Southwest Region meeting! We have some exciting opportunities in store for you that you wont want to miss.
As we did last year, our meeting has been scheduled in conjunction with Navy Days-LA. By doing so, this allows you to take advantage of ship rides, tours and other fun events. Grant Ivey, Chairman of the Navy Days-LA is putting the final touches on the ship ride opportunities. Well have more information about those soon. On Saturday evening, our dinner will be aboard the USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) with entertainment by the Rusty Steel Drum band. The USS NEVADA (BB 36), the famous 38.5 foot model from the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! will be pier side for your enjoyment as well. Dont forget, the battleship USS IOWA (BB 61) is now permanently berthed in the Port of Los Angeles and is also available for tours. To learn more about a tour, visit their website at: http://pacificbattleship.com/page/visiting
Please direct all inquiries concerning Navy Days-LA, http://navydaysla.org/, August 15 - 19, to Grant Ivey directly at: (310) 392-1275 or grantivey at roadrunner dot com.
Region meetings are an essential part of our Navy League organization -- to learn, share ideas and build relationships with other councils so that we may be effective leaders. This region meeting is about YOU, and how we can best support you and your council. With that in mind, I have asked National President Phil Dunmire to join us, along with Bill Waylett, Navy League's Senior Director of Mission Focused Programs, and Jack Ritter, National Vice-President for Legislative Affairs to provide training for us in two important areas.
I have attached our tentative agenda. One other training session is open and is yet to be named. What are your needs? Which other area would you like to have training? Let me hear from you!
While Bill Waylett is visiting the West coast for the Pac SW Region meeting, he also here for the Pacific Central Region meeting on August 25th. Bill has offered individual council training to you in the days following the Region meeting. Please refer to the attached spreadsheet for dates and available workshops, which we will coordinate with the Pac Central Region. Bills time is limited, but there is every opportunity for you and your council to get in on this one-on-one training if you act quickly!
As you know, National Directors and Area Presidents are required to attend this meeting as part of your commitment to your position. Council Presidents are strongly encouraged to attend, as are your council officers and board of directors, but let's not stop there -- invite your council members to attend too! Every Navy Leaguer can benefit from these training and contact opportunities!
Make your reservations today we have a limited number of available seats for Saturday night. There will be a lot going on, so plan on joining us for a great time!
Thank you for your commitment to Navy League.
