Establishing a Navy League San Francisco Inter-Council Fleet Support Team
- Ahoy Members and Friends,Senior Vice President Roger Bazeley is our council's representative on this new team. Others who can make the monthly meetings are welcome to join him.Carpooling is a possibility. Touch base with Roger and myself if you are willing to get on board the Navy League's San Francisco Inter-Council Fleet Support Team.A continuing concern of mine is the Navy ships at the BAE Shipyard. I don't think the crews are receiving the Navy League hospitality they should.Below is a message on the USS DECATUR (DDG-73) scheduled to make a San Francisco port call May 25-28. With the advance planning of this committee, I think the officers and crew will leave with a positive impression of San Francisco and the Navy League.Heave Ho,Phelps----- Original Message -----From: Phelps HobartSent: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 8:05 AMSubject: Establishing a Navy League San Francisco Inter-Council Fleet Support TeamThanks Angus for spearheading this worthy endeavor.Council representatives - this touches the heart and soul of the Navy League. Thank you so much. I've copied my XO (who is my relief) and my Ops to coordinate. It looks like we'll be going to pier 30-32, which I think will work well for us.

The United States Navy League looks forward to welcoming the USS Decatur
(DDG 73) and her officers and crew to San Francisco 25 - 28 May 2012. I
congratulate you on a successful tour and we are pleased you have chosen
this great Navy town as the backdrop for your change of command.
San Francisco is a smaller Council than it was in 1997 and this is true
of most bay area councils following the redeployment of most active duty
commands resulting from the BRACC process of the early 1990s. We are
however getting better and better working together from an inter-council
perspective to serve the sailors and marines that visit the San
Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. Our councils are members of
the Pacific Central Region under the leadership or RADM Bonnie Potter
(Ret.) and I expect we'll all work together to make the visit to San
Francisco by your crew the best port visit of their careers. To that
end please have your OPS Officer contact me for further planning at
Angus@... or mobile 650-799-8143.
I have cc'd Pacific Region leaders including:
RADM Bonnie Potter (Ret.),
RADM Thomas Brown III (Ret.) who I believe worked on the USS Hopper
Phelp Hobart, President of San Francisco Merchant Marine Council
Lou Lozano, President of Oakland Council
Contra Costa County President Jeanne Sharkey
Catharine Hooper, San Francisco Fleet Week Association
Regrettably, I will be in London during your visit but will be fully engaged in the planning for it.
Many thanks to you and your crew for your service to our country. We look forward to greeting you and your crew Friday May 25th.
President, San Francisco Council
Navy League of the United States

Subject: USS DECATUR Visit
I am the CO of USS DECATUR (DDG 73), I had the pleasure of working with
the San Francisco Navy League in 1997 for the commissioning of USS
HOPPER (DDG 70). The ship will be visiting San Francisco 25-28 May, with
our Change of Command ceremony on the 26th. We would like to extend an
offer for tours for your group and/or for the Sea Cadets that you work
with over that weekend.
If you are interested, I will connect you or one of your folks with my
Ops Officer to work out details.
