USS Pampanito Volunteers Replicate Missing Bubbles
Fabrication was the key to replacing the USS Pampanito’s missing bubble clinometers. Clinometers were critically important to Pampanito’s crew in controlling the depth of the submarine. After searching for 30 years for authentic bubble clinometers to replace the ones removed from Pampanito in 1960, our volunteers replicated these last missing parts of the dive station at TechShop. Rich Pekelney, board member, led the crew of volunteers, donors and vendors. The result…a team making this historic and precise fabrication job possible.
Thank you to all involved! For more photos and information on this surprisingly intricate project please see: http://maritime.org/pres/bubble/ For other stories of replaced equipment: http://maritime.org/pres/restmiss.htm
Underwater Birthdays on the
USS Pampanito Submarine!
Climb through watertight doors. Scramble up ladders. Tour the USS Pampanito Submarine from the aft. torpedo room all the way to the fwd. torpedo room. Our birthday parties have the ultimate finale…cake and ice cream in the crew’s mess hall!
Underwater parties are the brain-child of CJ Wierzbowski, the Education Manager of the USS Pampanito. CJ has created this living history party program and delivers it in the form of fun. For more information please call (415) 775-1943.
