Fw: Scuttlebutt from SF Maritime National Park Association
Scuttlebutt from SF Maritime National Park AssociationAhoy Members and Friends,The Council maintains a membership and interest in the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association. Individuals are encouraged to do likewise. The Park is a San Francisco maritime treasure and the Association does a credible job supporting it. It would be good to get more council members on its board of directors. How about an event or two this year at the Park? I have an idea or two but maybe you do as well. Here is the association's recent newsletter.Heave Ho,Phelps----- Original Message -----To: PhelpsSent: Thursday, January 05, 2012 1:46 PMSubject: Scuttlebutt from SF Maritime National Park AssociationIs this email not displaying correctly?

Thanks to you, our Members, Supporters and Friends, for your continued support and donations. We are sailing into 2012 with strong educational programs including our new science programs, enticing events such as our annual Fleet Week viewing party and activities including sailing the bay on the Alma. A heartfelt thanks to all of you for making all this possible!
The Association's Educational Programs are Booming!
It has been an amazing Fall in the National Park and at our hands-on education programs. More than 3,500 students and 950 adults have enjoyed our programs since August! We’ve been hard at work sailing, building, rigging, climbing, experimenting, living and learning aboard the historic ships. Our Youth Boat Building partnership was featured in the New York Times AND we have been awarded a grant from the Mary A. Crocker Trust which will help in funding next year’s programs.
Hyde Street Pier
USS PampanitoThe immersive learning programs on our World War II submarine are going strong! History is brought to life with new programs including our ‘hard hat’ tours where students get into the superstructure of the Pampanito and even crawl through some tight zones. Our science program is dynamic with students learning about concepts like electricity and magnetism with hands on learning including building a chemical battery. We, the teachers and staff at the Pampanito, look forward to more of these inspired teaching opportunities in 2012. More info
Christmas at Sea… A Gleeful Success.
Letters to Santa was presided over by two impish elves. Providing sparkles and spelling tips, they ran the ‘Letters To Santa’ campaign while parents enjoyed Maritime Members’ in-store discounts. Santa boarded the Balclutha after shanties and stories were shared. He shared candy canes and long lists with his devotees as they shared their holiday wishes! Ho Ho… A magical day.
