      Ahoy All,

Here is a great day cruise aboard the Pacific Merchant Marine Council's adopted SS JEREMIAH O'BRIEN. Please join us, and encourage others, for a trip back in time the 24th.

August 27 is a special San Francisco Bay Cruise with an up-close look at the construction on the Bay Bridge. Then October 8th and 9th are the extremely popular San Francisco Fleet Week Cruises. Saturday's features participation in the Parade of Ships and both cruises offer the best platform to witness the Blue Angels and others perform over the Bay.

I encourage you to read the referenced article about the Reserve Fleet. Of note is the piece on the USS HASSAYAMPA (AO-145) / USNS HASSAYAMPA (T-AO 145) the most decorated fleet oiler in U.S. history. Possibly you or someone you know served aboard her. She is nested in Row G along with the USS IOWA (BB-61), http://wikimapia.org/8003977/Ex-USNS-Hassayampa-T-AO-145.

PS Thank you Navy Leaguers and friends who came aboard the O'BRIEN the evening of July 4th for the party and fireworks display over the Bay. Special thanks to the Arkansas Division Sea Cadets who assisted in various capacities aboard that evening.

      SS JEREMIAH O'BRIEN
The SS JEREMIAH O'BRIEN is one of two remaining fully functional Liberty ships of the 2,710 built and launched during WWII. The O'BRIEN has the distinction of being the last unaltered Liberty ship and remains historically accurate. Moored at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf, she is a premier San Francisco attraction.

      A living museum on the
National Register of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark, the O'BRIEN transports you back almost seven decades to when sailors braved the harshest of high seas and threat of enemy attack. Suisun Bay's Ghost Fleet -- A collection of US Navy and merchant reserve ships, created following World War II. In 2010, plans were announced to completely remove the Ghost Fleet in stages. The O'Brien was once part of this reserve fleet, but was salvaged and restored as a museum ship. This sailing to Suisun Bay is to review the remaining ships and to say farewell to the few that will be taken out later in 2011 to be scrapped.
"Only 52 ships remain of a fleet that once was as big as a good-size Navy"
      Tickets include:
