Thank you to those council members and friends who joined the Independence Day party on the O'BRIEN. Special thanks to the Arkansas Division Sea Cadets for assisting in a variety of capacities to make it a successful event!

PS I have yet to identify a Bay Area event for the first day of issue, July 28th, of the Merchant Marine postage stamps. For right now, looks like you will, if interested, have to bring your own envelope to your local post office, purchase the stamps, and get them hand canceled. For sure purchase a supply for future postal correspondence - they are "Forever Stamps" which means they can be used to mail letters one ounce or less in weight anytime in the months ahead without adding additional postage if there is a rate increase.

      All Concerned,

Arkansas Division received a hearty thank you from the SS Jeremiah O'Brien National Liberty Ship Memorial for work performed aboard and on the pier during the 4th of July Fireworks.

Again, great fireworks viewing from the deck of the ship.

Cadets even got to shoot the forward port side anti-aircraft gun, with blanks of course.

The ship had some 800 aboard and made around $12,000.00 which will be used for continued maintenance and repair.

      Cheers!

      Wo Freitas

        Phelps,
Thanks for sending this out. You might also want to say that because of you and the publicity you generated (among others) and the help of the Cadets, this was our most successful 4th event ever. We had 845 people on board, and generated a net revenue for the O'Brien of over $11,500.
