      Ahoy Members and Friends,

Ocean Planning… That could be interesting considering the invasion hitting our shores.

Have some questions on that mass of ocean trash the size of Texas arriving from the Tsunami that hit Japan? How about the radiation traveling through Pacific currents and being absorbed into fish and all the other sea life throughout the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster? Talk about payback from World War II and a couple of nuclear bombs!

Well, here is your opportunity. And guess what, the venue is the San Francisco’s Aquarium of the Bay, Pier 39!

Possibly find out how the United States, and maybe Canada and Mexico are going to plan for this onslaught. Then there are all the invasive species already here that was attached to hulls of ships or contained in ballast water released into San Francisco Bay in the past. Then the myriad of government regulations issued by a host of government agencies.

      This should be interesting!

The list of speakers looks eminently qualified to speak on the scheduled topics, http://bayplanningcoalition.org/2013/09/ocean-planning-how-will-it-affect-the-maritime-industry. Let’s hope sufficient time is allowed for questions and answers.

Navy Leaguers attending are welcome to pay the Bay Planning Coalition Member price, $60 plus $4.00 handling fee, http://bayplanningcoalition.ticketleap.com/ocean-planning/dates/Feb-12-2014_at_0830AM. Please wear you Navy League lapel pin.

Arrive early, leave late; be sure to say hello to Bay Planning Coalition John Coleman, Executive Director, and Ariel Stephens, Administrative Coordinator and tell them how much you appreciate their efforts.

Dig into http://bayplanningcoaltion.org to see all the coalition activities and reports. Wow. Catch BPC on Facebook and Twitter as well. The council treasures its BPC membership! Be assured virtually no other Navy League council even shows an interest in maritime matters beyond the sea services.

      Heave Ho,

      Phelps Hobart
