Questions and Answers about NL Fleet Support Team
Q: What is San Francisco Inter-Council Fleet Support Team?
A: The San Francisco Inter-Council Fleet Support Team formed April 3, 2012 and will meet in San Francisco on the first Tuesday of every month to coordinate efforts among Pacific Central Region Councils to support ships visiting San Francisco, and to support other active duty commands and youth services. Understandably, members from the two San Francisco Councils (Pacific Merchant Marine Council and the San Francisco Council) may find it more convenient than members from distant councils, but members from any council are welcome.
Q: Who should attend?
A: Any member from any council interested in doing the work of the mission of the Navy League. This is not a passive group; this is a working group that will set goals and work toward them month in and month out to support the Navy Leagues mission, with special emphasis to enhance the morale of active duty personnel and their families visiting San Francisco. Expect to become involved, take on responsibilities, and engage the fleet.
Q: What is the format of the meeting?
A: Well start promptly at 5pm (plan accordingly!) and aim to finish by 6pm. In order to encourage attendance, Happy Half Hour will begin at 4:30pm. During the meeting well discuss active duty units in need of support, goals, and tasks. This is a group on a mission with an agenda, but will conduct its business with a high level of fun and social interaction.
Q: What if I dont want to do any work or take on even a modest responsibility due to health concerns, lack of interest, or lack of time?
A: This is not for you. This meeting is for members making it happen for supporting the fleet. You should continue to participate in your council functions, however.
Q: What are some of the tasks or areas we may serve?
A: Member communications, event planning, ship greeting, re-enlistment planning, tour planning for visiting ships, Sea Cadets, Junior ROTC, Navy ROTC, USS San Francisco (SSN 711), USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), SS Jeremiah OBrien, US Coast Guard and more!
Q: When is it again?
A: The first Tuesday of the month, 5pm at Sinbads Restaurant at the Embarcadero. Sinbads has a casual meeting room, excellent public transportation accessibility via BART and Muni and cheap ($5) valet parking. Other venues may be considered in the future. Remaining 2012 meetings: June 5th, July 3rd, August 7th, September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th, December 4th.
